60% of children and young people are still not doing the recommended daily activity levels, and to address this statistic, the SGO role is currently undergoing a complete overhaul. School Games, YST and LYG have shifted the focus away from elite pathway events and SGOs are now encouraged to plan a bespoke borough offer based on local needs.

We will continue to offer competitive opportunities where there are gaps in current provision rather than duplicate events. The more popular events which offer a competitive element to a wide range of abilities will remain, but we will also be looking to diversify the offer with less traditional sports and activities.

Activity imageWe want to give as many pupils as possible the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports and activities to create positive relationships with physical activity for life. We will look to make the offer as inclusive and diverse as possible but will look for opportunities which will include specific target groups such as SEND, BAME, girls, low socio-economic groups and transition groups (Y3 & Y7/8).

In order to plan a bespoke offer that meets the needs of all schools in Sutton, it is very important that we have as much input from as many stakeholders as possible.
