SENIOR & JUNIOR ATHLETICS

 QUAD KIDS

This year’s competition was held at Stanley Park High School who have a bespoke athletics facility including a 400m track with 4 lanes. This made the 75m sprint races and the 600m distance race, very easy to set up and accurate when recording times. Boys and girls rotated around the track and field events according to their schedule and events culminated in a fun, non-scoring relay. Thanks go to Stanley Park Y10 leaders were also present in good numbers to officiate and record the different stations. Pupils gave their 100% in their races and events and everyone enjoyed the day. Immense thanks go to Y10 leaders from Stanley Park High who recorded and officiated in such an efficient manner.

PRIMARY BOROUGH ATHLETICS

The competition involving the John Fisher group of schools took place on 14th June in sunny weather. All the pupils that took part had the opportunity to try out certain field events under non-competitive circumstances alongside their track events. There were many trophies for different age-groups and relays, but the main award was won by St Elphege’s and small schools by Highview. Many thanks go to Vea Billin of Foresters school who organised this huge event once again.

Unfortunately the weather was not so kind to the Carshalton Boys cluster of schools and this event had to be cancelled due to a dire weather forecast which turned out to be correct. Thanks go to Matt Jiggins from Westbourne school who organised this event, hopefully all your hard work will be ready for next year!

SENIOR BOROUGH ATHLETICS

The weather for the senior athletics was in complete contrast to the primary events, with temperatures climbing into the mid 30’s. The distance events were switched to first thing in the day in order to try to accommodate the slightly cooler temperatures. Despite a few minor medical dramas courtesy of the weather, the event ran smoothly and on time. A huge thank you go to David Johnson and Sam Collins and all the staff from Wallington Girls and Wallington Boys for organising and running this competition for the past two years.

Following on from recent email notifications. It has been decided that it is only fair that all secondary schools take their turn in taking charge of running the Borough Sports for a period of 2 years. This can be done in conjunction with another school if desired. If no schools volunteer for next year, then schools who have not run this event in the past will be put into a hat and names drawn out at the next Secondary Heads of PE meeting on 11th September.
