PRIMARY
What has been especially satisfying this year is that every LYG pathway competition has been won by a different school, which is a positive indication that the standard of primary school sport has increased across many schools across the borough. Tag Rugby (Cheam Park Farm), Sports Hall Athletics (St Elphege’s), Football ‘Best’ (Stanley Park Juniors), Girls Football (Barrow Hedges), Hi5 Netball (Bandon Hill), Quicksticks (Cheam Common). Although none of our schools medalled, a few made it through to the play-off stages. But all pupils would all have had an amazing and exciting day which will inspire them to continue with their sport and their enthusiasm will hopefully rub off on their peers. All results can be found on the London Youth Games website http://www.londonyouthgames.org/Other schools that have either won competitions or had the chance to represent Sutton include – 3v3 Basketball – July finals (Cheam Fields), Handball (Muschamp), Panathlon (Foresters, All Saints Carshalton & St Cecilia’s), Megafest (Foresters), Futsul (Cheam Common) & Cycling (Harris Academy).
SECONDARY
Sutton have experienced a particularly high level of success this year at the LYG spring finals. As with the primary schools, there is an encouraging spread of secondary schools representing Sutton in this age-group. Every Sutton team finished in the top ten out of 33 boroughs with two 4th places and six medals! For the first time in a few years we had representations in the Sports Hall Athletics finals with Sutton Grammar & Wallington Girls. These teams finished a commendable 4th, 6th & 8th place. Stanley Park High is a centre of excellence for Volleyball in the area and they finished a worthy 4th & 5th place in the male & female Y10 & Under competitions. Wallington Girls came very close to medalling in the Y7 netball competition with a 5th place finish.
